I would guess that most people don't like POSED pictures, yet I would say that
about half of the 300 to 700 images that I create at a wedding are posed, and bride and
grooms choose mainly posed photos for their albums!
Why? Because what people are really trying to avoid is PHOTOS THAT LOOK POSED! They want pretty photos with feelings, which is exactly what I aim to produce. My definition of a posed or formal portrait is: A portrait where the lighting, background, camera position and body angle have been artistically arranged by the photographer so that the real personalities and feelings can be captured on film to create a beautiful picture. Notice how I have angled the ring bearers towards each other, and I have put the shorter one closer to the light. Had they been on opposite sides, the taller one might have cast a shadow on the other. Of course the family wanted a nice smiling photo of the two kids. And to please them I took a picture like that. But I also wanted a REAL picture. It took me about thirty seconds of working with them to get this photo. |
