Sunny and John were married in December, 1996, in Berkeley. We started photography several hours before the ceremony at the Claremont Resort and Spa. Only the bride's side (family and bride's maids) were there for these photographs.

Every day the phone rings and a bride wants to know if I am available on such and such a date for their wedding. When I say that I am available, often the next thing the bride says is, "We don't want posed pictures."

My first reaction is to take them at their word. Sure, I would love to photograph your entire wedding day with no posed photos, no problem. But, wouldn't your parents want a really sweet picture of you in your dress with your flowers?

"Yes, I want some nice pictures, but I hate that posed look." Of course! No one wants that posed look, like the deer caught in the headlights.

But look at this natural light portrait of Sunny: All moms - and most brides - want this type of posed portrait. If the bride likes this style of classic portraiture, we also take a few minutes to create timeless close-up and full length portraits with a variety of expressions.
